Apprenticeship – Stonemasonry L2 Standard 16+

  • The Stonemasonry Apprenticeship was re-launched for national delivery in June 2021. Covering key skills areas set out by industry, it comprises 8 core modules and 2 specialist modules in one of the following: Exterior Fixer, Banker or Heritage stonemasonry.

Topics covered include: health & safety; sustainability; repair and restoration of stone structures and carved work; knowledge of working with listed and historic buildings and structures.

Apprentices will learn key techniques in banker stonemasonry, developing a better understanding of working with stone as a building material. They will develop their skills by producing a range of architectural components in stone using hand and power tools. All apprentices will also cover aspects of constructing and repairing stone structures, covering specific areas in more detail according to the chosen option – banker, heritage or exterior fixer – agreed with their employer.

Working closely with their employer, all apprentices will be required to produce a portfolio of college and workplace projects to reflect their training.

Final assessment will be by portfolio review, interview/professional discussion and may include some workplace observation. Details of all units and assessment methods can be found on the Institute for Apprenticeships website Stonemason / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education

This is a two year block release programme which gives stonemasons the opportunity to complete an apprenticeship programme
