This is a one week condensed version of our 10 week evening class that gives students an opportunity to experience the fundamentals of furniture making in a friendly workshop environment. In a small group, we’ll make a side table out of pine with traditional hand tools and a variety of powered machinery. Suitable for complete beginners, you’ll culminate the course with foundational skills and principles to support you on your subsequent woodworking journey. We’ll learn:
- How to interpret a project from a CAD drawing
- The structure of wood and how it guides your approach to working with it
- Using marking out tool such as knives, squares and gauges to prepare the wood for shaping
- To work with handsaws, chisels and planes to cut, shape and fit archetypal woodworking joints
- How to assemble your components with glue and clamps
- To prepare timber surfaces and finish with oil
- How to sharpen edge tools
- How to work safely and efficiently in a woodworking workshop
Please bring:
- Steel toe cap boots (TO BE WORN AT ALL TIMES WHILE ON COURSE)
- H or 2H pencils
