Short Course – Stone Carving- February 2025

A five week course for beginners or those with little stonemasonry or carving experience.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             

An introductory course to stone carving for beginners. The course will introduce the hand tools and techniques for working stone. Learners will be able to familiarise themselves with working in 3D form,  then progress to creating a carved form in stone. Using soft limestone, participants will work from set designs and produce a traditional architectural low relief carving, with guidance support from experienced stone carving tutors. The sessions will be held in our well-equipped stonemasonry workshop, the course will provide an opportunity to learn about the basics of stonemasonry and see how techniques can be used to make a simple form in stone.

  • College certificate
  • Interest in stone work
  • No prior experience necessary

You will need to bring:

  • Steel toe-capped boots (to be worn at all times while on course)
